I have "Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95," and I'd like to update it to a
more recent version. Currently, my OS is Windows XP. How can I do this?

The current version of Publisher is Publisher 2007, available at most
software stores as well as online. Check that your computer meets the
system requirements before purchasing. Publisher has undergone rather a
substantial number of changes since 1995, there may be a bit of a
learning curve to get back up to speed.

Don't buy 2007 Publisher, it has all kinds of issues. If I were you, get
2003 XP if it will work with your computer. I have Vista and put 2007
Publisher on my new computer and it won't print business cards or other
things without having to manipulte settings, etc. You shouldn't have to work
that hard to print something so simple.

So, it sounds like no matter what, I can't "update," per se, I have to
purchase a more recent version. Put another way, I can't download something
on line to have it update my current version, I have to discard the Publisher
95 and buy it again, just a newer version. Am I understanding it correctly?

Unfortunately, yes. Eventually most software programs evolve over time and
are incapable of reading older files.

Any chance you have a newer version of Office or Works on your computer?

Yes. Upgrade versions are available at a reduced price from some more
recent versions of Publisher, but not as far back as Publisher 95. No
version offers free upgrades to a newer major release, although most
offer updates to the latest "point release"; these, however, do not add
much new functionality and mainly exist to fix bugs.

No, I think Publisher 95 should qualify you for the upgrade version.

Ed is merely warning you to check your computer's characteristics
against the requirements of the program to make sure it will run
properly on your system. "stl" just doesn't like Publisher 2007.

Craig

No, Publisher 95 is too old to qualify for upgrade pricing. Publisher
2003 required a 97 product; Publisher 2007 requires a 2000 product.

Sorry. My bad.

That's why I asked if she had a newer version of Office or Works. That would
qualify her for the upgrade.
