How can I upgrade from Office XP to Office 2003

If your copy of Office XP is a retail version, just purchase the upgrade
version of Office 2003. If your Office XP is an OEM version (installed by
the dealer when you bought your computer) you'll have to purchase the full
Office 2003 version, as OEM versions are not upgradable.

You're thinking of Windows - OEM versions of Office are perfectly
upgradeable.
