How can "modify" date be before "create" date in properties?

When I go to a document's properties, the modify date is before the create
date. For example: Created on January 28, 2005; Modified on January 5,
2005. How did that happen?

My guess is that you copied it to a new location giving it a new
creation date, after you modified the original.

Actually Bob, I have seen this on some PPT files I have created. They
remained on the same computer and in the same folders. Since I have
absolutely no necessity to use those dates for anything I do, it never
bothered me. Don't know if it is one of the undocumented bugs in Office or
not. My version of Office that did this was 2003.

It was a new file and never modified? That would be odd, picking up
leftover data instead of writing the current date.

I never tracked where the original date and modified dates came from. I did
repeatedly save the file as I was creating it but that still wouldn't
account for that issue. I don't know if the program picked up a graphic
file date or what. All I know is that it happened.
