How can you tell cell data is linked?

Hello, I'm using Excel 2003, and I'm manually adding shading to all linked
cells. I'm wondering if there is some trick to being able to tell when data
in a cell is linked.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Try this "Ctrl+`" it will display all cell with formula press "Ctrl+`" to go
back to normal view.

Hope this help.

Ctrl+~ shows me all formulas. It might be that as soon as I paste the linked
data that shading the cells is the best idea.

Hi Rick, when I copy results in one worksheet and Edit, Paste Special, Link
to another worksheet.

Later, I'll forget because it's not obvious that the cell results are linked
to other worksheet.

Maybe this will work for you. Go to the worksheet you want to shade the
cells on, click Edit/Find on Excel's menu bar, put just the exclamation
symbol in the "Find what" field. If the Options button is showing two
greater than signs (>>), then click the button to open the options part of
the dialog... make sure "Sheet: is selected in the "Within" drop down,
"Formulas" is selected in the "Look in" drop down and that there is *NO*
check mark in the "Match entire cell contents" check box. Once the above is
all set, click the "Find All" button, then press Ctrl+A (this will select
all the cells shown in the table that appeared on the bottom of the panel),
click the "Close" button and, after the dialog box closes, all cells on the
worksheet with a reference to another worksheet should all be selected...
then just fill them by whatever means you currently do (that is, click the
Fill icon in the tool bar if it is displayed or use the Patterns tab on the
Format Cells dialog box).

I should point out that if any cells have quoted text where that text
contains an exclamation symbol, it will become selected even if the cell is
not linked to another sheet.

OK. Then my idea to shade the cells right after I paste is a good solution.
Thanks.
