Sliding OT slightly -
Interesting - so who handles your clearance at the point of entry - mine is
done by Parcel Force/Post Office as I would assume for you as they handle
ALL post from abroad - but always a £5 - £8 charge as they collect no duty
from me - otherwise they would not charge.

It was a while ago so I cannot recollect precise details of delivery, I know
when I last had hardware shipped there was a sum to pay at the sorting
office.

That would be their handling charge, clearing Customs, plus delivery in the
UK.
Dealing with software from the US at the moment is attractive - $2 = £1
If you import for personal use, you need to keep an eye on the duty codes -
they can change :-(
