How Did the Client Import These Images?

I was just given a PPT by a client with a number of images that are
behaving very oddly. When I double click on them, I get the following
message:

"The server application, source file, or item can't be fond, or
returned an unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server
application"

I can crop the images by going to Format: Object... and doing it
numerically, but the crop tool is not available on the toolbar for
these images. And I'm having trouble compressing the images (which is
the most important thing right now.)

Were these images linked? If so, why are they appearing at all?

FYI: I can move around and animate the images with no problem.

I'm stumped.

I think they were inserted as Objects, rather than pictures. I wonder if
you can save the file as an HTML file and get pictures that you can
reinsert.
