how do i add a grid to a pic using office xp

using office xp i want to turn a picture file into a grid form so that i can
use it as a crochet pattern..what is best way to do this?

There are several programs available on the web that will help you with
that. Check some of the applicable newsgroups for suggestions.

(BTW, I'm a needleworker and a beader. I know exactly what you want to do.
Office is NOT the way to go.)
