How do I add French/German letters to a seperate toolbar?

I know how to create a toolbar, but I'm not sure how to add French characters
or other characters to a seperate toolbar so that I can click on them and
they can be inserted into my documents! I am using Word XP (2002)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it would be easier to use the built-in keyboard shortcuts for them
or, if you have to type a lot in one of these languages, to enable an
international keyboard setting.
