How do I add placeholders to Power Point slides?

I'm trying to modify a powerpoint 2003 presentation that has 3 placeholder
objects in it. I want to add another six, but cannot figure out how to add
even one. I've tried copy/paste, looking through the control toolbox, and
looking through other toolbars but cannot find anything. I've also trie
help, querying on the word 'placeholder' all with no luck.

Hi,

You cannot add new placeholders beyond what is available in the Layouts. You
can go to the Slide Master (View| Master| Slide Master) and add various
objects such as footers and slide numbers, plus you can change the slide
layout in the Task Pane. But I imagine that does not help in your situation.

Unfortunately you can't. What you can do is create a slide with the items you
want. Save that presentation as a template file (.pot) then when ever you
create a presentation using that template, the created slide will be there for
you to copy and place wherever you want in your presentation. Hopefully in
upcoming versions Microsoft will give the end user the options for creating
their own place holders.
