How do I advance slide one item per mouse click

I know this must be really basic, but I would like to be able to construct a
slide with several bullet items on it and then have one added bullet item
revealed with each mouse click.

Slightly different depending on the version of PowerPoint you are using:

Slide Show > Custom Animation
Add Effects.
Select desire effect. Set each bulleted item to animate "On Click"
