It's been my experience that the Office 2003 installer will
remove a previous Office edition without the CD, whether you want
it to or not. I'm not sure why you're being prompted for the
previous edition CD.
If you really want to attempt a manual uninstall, I suggest that
you uninstall Office 2003, adapt the following instructions
provided by a Microsoft person some time ago in one of the Office
newsgroups for manually removing Office 2000, and then reinstall
Office 2003.
1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility
from http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301
2. Run this utility and check if Office 2000(or other Office
version) is listed.
3. Select Office Products and then click Remove.
4. Click Start, and then click Run.
5. In the "Open" (without the quotation marks) box, type
"regedit" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause
serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating
system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems
that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry
Editor at your own risk.
6. Backup the entire registry and then rename or delete the
following registry keys if present:
