How do i center my webpage in publisher 2007?

I am beginner in web design and am using Publisher 2007 for this. I have a
15.4" screen and when I preview the oages I have made, they are left
justified and not centered, like the other web pages I see on the internet.
Please advise how I center the content of the pages and add a background
color on the sides.

It's the nature of the Publisher beast. Although Pub can be used for web
design, most people don't. Use a web design program for web designing and a
desktop publishing program for doing desktop publishing. ;-)

Publisher is intended for small, simple static websites and the output is
left justified by design. If you need a dynamic site with self centering,
etc. you would be advised to move to a different program. With that said,
you should review the following article to understand this and to be
introduced to various ways to simulate a centered page: "Understanding
background padding in a Publisher web (aka white space)":

Thanks for the advice. I also have downloaded Expression, can the auto
centering be done on that program?

You're talking about a whole different critter now. My warning would be if
you are just playing with that but don't intend to keep using it, don't mess
your Pub site.

Malloren,

I haven't tested Expression, but it is described in a way to imply that it
does have this and other dynamic functionality. Since you went to the
trouble to download the program, just try it...and let us know.

As JoAnn suggested, if you want to try to import your Publisher site, be
sure to back it up first. I am guessing that like FrontPage the code will
not be compatible.

Yes of course. Dunno, what you mean by "auto", but yes you can center pages.

EWD is a totally different animal than Publisher, so you will have a little
learning to do. BUT..you will be able to do much more with your webs than
you could with Publisher.

Don't even contemplate converting a Pub web to EWD or FP it's just not worth
the time/effort/frustration...just start over.

CAVEAT: EWD is BETA

EWD is making a major effort to produce valid code, trying to convert Pub's
proprietary stuff is insane. I messed with doing so yesterday with ONE pub
page...350 validation errors. You'd have to be versed in html, etc. to make
a clean page and get rid of the zillion or so table/cells that Pub
produces...conversion is just not a viable option.

EWD is very nice you should try it.

I probably will try it when I get time. I am in the middle of testing some
other stuff right now though. Thanks for your comments.
