How do I change background colors in a word template?

I'm using a simple (or so it seemed) word template downloaded from MS Office
Online, to create a program for a school music event. I'd like to change
the colors on the template to our school colors. Any idea how to change the
color scheme?

I saw the (a?) music event template for Word. I'm not a Word guru - I know
enough to be dangerous and enough to do what I need to do. It doesn't look
easy. But I'm curious - do you have Publisher? If so, that's the program (no
pun intended) you should be using.

I have yet to figure out how to change images in the Word templates (I find Word is
good at doing words). Select the picture (don't select the text box), copy, and paste
to a new instance of Word, right-click, format picture, select any wrap but inline
with text. You can now ungroup the picture and change it all.

Instead of changing the background color, can you print on appropriately
colored paper instead? That's generally how people change background colors
in Word.

You can put a rectangular autoshape in the header of the Word template to
create a colored background, but, assuming that you are printing these at
school, you (more than likely) won't be able to print clear to the edge of
the page, so you'll end up with a white border -- and the white border may
not be equally sized on each of the page edges. We run into this in the
PowerPoint newsgroup all the time. See Margins are wrong, printout is
off-center, I don't want any margins
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00097.htm for an explanation of why this
is so.

If you're printing with a service bureau or professional printer, whether
they can go edge to edge will depend on what device they're printing/copying
on. If they have to trim, it will probably cost you a little more.
