how do I change default paragraph spacing?

Jane

I have Office 2007. In MS Word I get double spacing every time I hit
the 'enter' key. I don't want that. I opened the 'paragraph' menu
and checked the box that says "don't add space between paragraphs of
the same style". Then I clicked the "Default" button. It asked me if
I wanted this to apply to all new documents. I say 'yes' but the next
time I start MS Word it's back to double spacing.

How can I change the default?

Thanks

Hi Jane,

The default spacing in Word 2007 is 1.2 lines (considered by the experts in such things to increase readability) <g>.

On the home tab in Word you can use the 'Change Styles' drop down to select the Word 2003 Style set to have the previous version
spacing.
You may need to open the Normal.dotm file and set it there as well.

I tried doing as you suggested with the "Change Styles" dropdown. I
select 'no spacing' and then clicked on 'options' and checked the box
to make the change effective for all documents. When I closed the the
menu I tried it on that document and it worked. I closed Word and
restarted it and it was back to the previous setting again.

I looked at the Normal.dotm file but it isn't a readable file. That
is it looks like garbage.

This is driving me crazy. Why won't it save my settings?

Dear Jane,

This is driving me crazy as well. I would like to keep the style at "no spacing". I changed it under advanced settings but it went back to "normal"(which I would think would be normal). What are they using the tiny letters for? Anyway, do you know if you have to restart your computer to take effect? In addition, I went back to "advanced", and could not find the option to change it from normal to no space. Please help if you have an answer. Could you possibly respond to my email because I am new to this forum and I do not know if you have to be on it in order to get the answer.
Thank you,
Marilyn
