How do I change the date format in Excell from eg 20060926

Excell doesnt recognise the above format as a date, so I would like to change
it, however the standard date formats dont work.

use:

=DATE(LEFT(A1,4),MID(A1,5,2),RIGHT(A1,2))

dates eg: 20060926

Another way is to use Data > Text to Columns. Select the col of "dates".
Click Data > Text to Columns, click Next > Next. In step 3 of the wiz, under
Col data format, check "Date" and select: YMD from the droplist next to it,
click Finish.
