How do I check 'temp environment variable' in Word 07

Both Word & Outlook (2007) have stopped working properly. A message says
check 'temp environment variable'

rt click My Computer>Properties........Advanced Tab.......Environment
Variables

What size is your C drive (My Computer) and what free space is available?
