How do I configure excel to show results when highlighting cells?

I use to see results (addition) on the bottom of the page when I highlighted
several cells with numbers but for some reason I don´t anymore. I´ve tried to
look into options but I can´t find a command or option that mentions this
aspect of configuration.

Make sure the statusbar is turned on:
tools|options|view tab

Make sure it's visible (resize the window if you have to)

rightclick on one of those embossed boxes in the right hand corner and choose
Sum (or whatever you want)

and select more than one cell with data.

Right-click in the place where the sum used to be.
It ought to give you a choice of results.
