How do I copy/paste to Word document from IE?

I highlight words to copy from Outlook Express, then choose Copy from the
drop down Edit menu, then minimize the window. I open a blank Word document,
but I am unable to choose paste from the drop down Edit menu because Paste is
ghosted out. What am I doing wrong? Using Windows XP and Word 2002. Are
there any security settings that should be changed to allow the Paste?

Not sure if this would work but you could try Ctrl C for copy (instead of
choosing it from the menu) then Ctrl V to paste it, sometimes this seems to
work.

I do not know about that. I just tried it by highlighting a message in OE and the opened Word and selected Paste and it copied. What I did was highlight the text in OE and right click and select copy. Opened Word and in the blank area I did a right click and selected Paste.

I know this is old, but I did search the archives before posting my question.
This thread has come the closest to what my problem is.
I have read about some programs running in the background which cause the
clipboard to not work correctly, so *maybe* that is the problem I'm having.
At any rate, all of a sudden, my clipboard is not working properly. I used
to be able to copy something, open a new Word doc. and paste the copied item
into it. Now, for whatever reason, when I open the new Word doc. the paste
option is ghosted. This happens if I close the first doc. and/or if I open a
new one. Call me a slow learner, but I forget the number of times I've had
to re-open a doc., re-copy it, and paste it into the new doc. that is already
open.
This happens in Word and most other Office programs I use - Publisher,
Excel, Access. Do I need to go looking for something that I did not intend
to install?
