I WANT TO CREATE A DATABASE FOR MY MINISTRY TEACHING AUDIO TAPLE COLLECTION
USING ACCESS. THE FOLLOWING INFO WILL BE USED:
THE AUTHOR, YEAR, ID# AND SCRIPTURE REFERENCE.
THERE ARE SINGLE TAPES, AND SETS OF 2-12..
Minnie, one thing to be aware of: typing in all caps is considered
impolite. It's hard to read and it looks like you are SHOUTING at us.
Please type in all lower case if the shift key is inconvenient for
you.
You might want to check out the references at
http://home.bendbroadband.com/conradsystems/accessjunkie/resources.html
particularly the Database Design 101 links.
In a nutshell (in a mustard seed maybe? <g>) you'll need to identify
the Entities of importance to your collection; an Entity is a
real-life thing, person, or event. Each Entity should correspond to a
table.
You'll probably need several tables here - a table of Authors and one
of Tapes at the very minimum:
Tapes
TapeID Primary Key (a unique tape identifier, your existing ID??)
Title
DateMade <don't use Date as a fieldname>
ScriptureReference <Memo; copy and paste from a digital Bible or see
below>
Comments <Memo, your notes about this tape>
AuthorID
Authors
AuthorID Primary Key Autonumber
LastName
FirstName
<other bio information as needed>
Probably a table of Sets as well, which will mean you'll need the
SetID as a field in the Tapes table.
Your post prompted me to do a quick Google search; it seems that the
entire text of the Bible is in fact available in at least three
translations, in the form of Access databases (free):
http://www.htmlbible.com/ and search the page for Microsoft Access.
This would be kind of neat as you could just store book, chapter, and
verse in three fields in your tapes table, and link directly to the
Bible passage itself in the Bible database.
