can't be done!

Some people have suggested doing the table in word and then pasting it into
powerpoint - try it and report back

I gave it a try. Using Word 2003, i made my table using leading dots, then
pasted it but no leading dots appeared in Powerpoint. Tried all the
different options under Paste Special as well, but no dice. Thanks for the
post nonetheless.

Since there is no dot leader tab setting in PowerPoint, this is the work-around I use:
  1. For each line in the 'table', select/highlight the tabbed area
  2. In the Home ribbon Font group, click the corner "launcher" to access the full settings, then change the Font "Underline style" from "(none)" to the dotted line option.
  3. Repeat for each tabbed over line one at a time.

Thanks Julia.
This is a doable, creative solution to yet another MStake.
I used your solution once, then sucked it up with the style eyedropper to apply repeatedly.
