How do I create a line with editable text in Word?

I have a form where I need a thick black line down the right hand side and I
need the line to be editable.
Basically the line will have one word on it and the words have to be white.
Please help.

It sounds like you are looking for marginal text--see this link:

You can change the frame background to black and your font to white.
