How do I create a website for multimedia education?

B

Brenda

I'd like to create a web site for students to learn grammar. Thus, it needs
to include my voice explaining the lesson along with corresponding pages of
text and pictures. Then, the students would be required to complete
fill-in-the-blank exercises that the computer would immediately assess for
correctness. If the answer was wrong, the student would not be allowed to
continue until he enters the right response.

In addition, it would need to require a password to enter their own section,
and then keep track of their work and grades.

What software would I choose? Could I do this using FrontPage? If not, what
other options should I consider?

Thank you,
Brenda

Yes, this type of application could be developed using FrontPage but I
suggest you also evaluate DreamWeaver and Flash to compare the programs and
the resources available to help you achieve this objective. Go into
Macromedia newsgroups and start asking questions there too.

There are a number of services and other methodologies to add spoken audio
streams to web pages Brenda. Use Google to learn more.

There are plenty of ways to insert multimedia content into a FrontPage Web
site very easily. In fact, FrontPage 2003 includes the ability to do so
quite well right out of the box. Recommending Dreamweaver is probably not
going to help Brenda much because it's going to require a tremendous
learning curve. Dreamweaver is an excellent product, but it's nowhere near
as easy to use as FrontPage.

I would stick with FrontPage. Creating your multimedia content will
obviously need to happen outside of any Web development tool, but inserting
it is quite easy with FrontPage.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your advice -- while I do enjoy learning new things, you're
right, I just don't have the time to become an expert in website design right
now. So, what software should I be looking at for developing the multimedia
parts? The fill-in-the-blank questions/answers is the most important part to
me -- but of course audio and slideshows will make it all more inviting for
the students.

Thanks,
Brenda

You could use an annotated PowerPoint presentation.

You might also like to check out http://d2stuff.com who have a FrontPage
add-on which includes a poll (Q & A ) (amongst other things in the addon)
which is a bit more involved, anyway look and see.

Tip now out is: FrontPage 2003 has design guide
http://frontpage-tips.com/ - FrontPage Tips
They are primarily for FrontPage 2003 but will be good
for earlier versions too.
