How do I create an association to run slide show?

I downloaded powerpoint viewer 2003, but it won't let me open a .pps file.
Error message says..."File does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control
panel".

Substitute the viewer exe for the powerpoint exe file.
