How do I create an isometric cube?

T

I've been struggling all afternoon to create an isometric Rubik's Cube-type diagram...I can kludge it if I build it using the Line tool and connecting them using the Snap-To geometry, however this doesn't allow me to add colour to the face of each cube even if I Group the lines...

I have also struggled with the Rectangle Tool, but Rotate 30 degrees doesn't create a skewed square, it is simply a rotated square...

Any thoughts/help would be most appreciated!

You need to use the pencil or line tool to edit vertices.

Draw a rectangle. Then get the line or pencil tool. Shift + Click on
vertices to select two at a time. Then you can effectively skew the
rectangle.

Make sure you can see the grid (View menu) and that you have snap-to-grid
(Tools > Snap & Glue)

You can also create a true isometric grid by setting a custom ruler grid
(say 0.5 x 0.866. Go to Tools > Ruler & Grid)

Also, learn Ctrl + H, and Ctrl + L for horizontal and vertical flipping,
respectively.
