How do I create non-newsletter style, non-wrapping columns in Wor.

I'm trying to create a 4-columed document in which each column continues on
to the next page rather than wrapping to the next column. That way the 4
columns will continue on parallel to each other across successive pages for
the length of the document. Can anyone help me figure this out?

For this you need a four-column (borderless) table. Word does not like long,
single-row tables, however, so start a new row wherever possible.

Can he use text boxes or frames side-by-side, one set per page?
(Sounds tedious, but then could link text flow from page to page
without the table break problem.)

How long a single-row table will word tolerate?

Text boxes are not a viable option for this sort of arrangement in Word. For
one thing, they have to be anchored to a text paragraph (even if empty) on
the page. For another, Word's limit for linked text boxes is 32. I haven't
established the limits for single-row tables in Word, but I would advise
starting a new row at least once a page.
