How do I create pop-up help text using Word 2003?

I'm trying to add help text to a form in order to help users fill in the
field correctly. The content of the help text has too many characters to just
insert help text on the field, and using comments would require every user to
reset his/her set-up options.

I have often used hidden text that's formatted red, but you're still into
the potential problem of a user not viewing hidden text. Are macros an
option?
