How do I create side headings in Word 2003?

I am using anchored text boxes to create side headings. These headings are
one to four lines long, are to the left of the main text, and must be
centered. Is there a method other than text boxes for creating side headings
in Word 2003?

A wide margin containing the heading?

I don't have that recent a Word version, but maybe a two column table
with the heading in one column and the related text in the adjacent block.

A side heading is a heading that's positioned in the margin of the page, next to
the text, instead of as a paragraph between text paragraphs.
