how do I delete some wording from a document, it keeps coming bac

[Help on microsoft words documents]

This might seem a silly question but I have typed in a poem on microsoft word
doc.1 and I cannot now delete, have tried blacking out and delete but when I
put microsoft word up again it is still there, can anyone help, thanks
