How do I disable auto shapes in a Word 2003 document?

I am working in a Word 2003 document that I did not create. I am unable to
insert auto shapes into the document. My workaround has been to go to a
blank Word document and do the auto shape there. Then copy to the clipboard
and paste it into the first document. I can't locate anything in the help
file about this. Any suggestions? Thanks! Oh...XP Pro SP 2 on an Intel P4
machine with 512mb of RAM. Thanks!

What happens when you try to insert an AutoShape in the problem document? Is
it protected in any way (for forms, for example)?

Hi Suzanne:

That was the issue. The document was protected. Once I removed the
protection, I didn't have a problem at all. Sorry I didn't get a chance to
respond sooner!
