How do I disable the hyperlink for e-mail addresses in Excel?

When I type an e-mail address in an Excel cell, it automatically hyperlinks.
Is there a way to disable this function?

In xl2003 menus:

Tools|Autocorrect Options|Autoformat as you type tab|uncheck the top option.
