How do I display 0 in eg 021796 - not as text?

How can I display the leading 0 in a number without having to change the cell
format to text? eg yymmdd 010115?

custom format the number as 000000.

Use a custom format 000000

note that this will not be dates that excel can read without either using
vba or help formulas, to excel this will be ten thousand one hundred fifteen
