How do I drag a formula keeping cells the same but changing sheets

I would like to drag a formula across a spreadsheet but would like the cell
numbers to stay the same but the worksheet to change.

Do you mean something like =Sheet1!A1 becoming =Sheet2!A1, =Sheet3!A1, etc
Try =INDIRECT("Sheet"&COLUMN(A1)&"!$A$1")
The Column(A1) when dragged to the right will give the required 1,2,3....

Now I have seen your first post! You have sheets named Nov 07, Dec 07
Enter these names in A1:J1 but you must precede each with a single quote to
stop Excel treating them as dates
In A2 enter =INDIRECT("'"&A1&"'!$AX$4")
Drag this across the row
