How do I draw a box around name and address at top of stationery?

I am designing a letterhead where the text (name and address) is enclosed in
a rectangular box. I am able to draw the box, but I am not allowed to enter
text in the box. If I try to draw a box around the text, the box
disappears. How do I do this?

There are a number of ways to do this. You can insert a bordered text box
and add text, or you can add a border to existing text, or you can create a
table, with borders and insert text. If you're using an AutoShape, it's
probably In Front of Text and has an opaque white fill. Select No Fill, and
you should be able to see the text.
