How do I draw a simple line?

I'm trying to create a simple response form, ask the question, then have a
line after it for the answer so people can type in the answer without the
line moving. I am trying to draw a line, but with no luck (I'm using office
2003). It was easy in older versions, but now when I click on autoshapes and
the line icon, I get a box and cannot seem to be able to get the line where I
want.

Ie. Name: __________

Any suggestions?

The "box" is called the Drawing Canvas. To get rid of it, so that you
can draw directly in the document like you did in "older versions",
click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the "Automatically create
drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes" box | OK.

As g-n-o has told you, getting rid of the drawing canvas will allow you to
