I have pasted a range from an excel file into a powerpoint slide
if I go to the excel file later and add another row before the range
that has been pasted into powerpoint. When I update
the powerpoint linked object the object is now out of phase -

How can I edit the range of the linked object inorder to put it back as before

When you paste the range into PowerPoint, choose Edit, Paste Special instead
of Paste.

You can do this by using named ranges.

Trick is to delete the old range name and then reassign it to the new
range. To illustrate this:
Name a range in Excel, copy and paste special + link into PPT
In Excel delete the existing range name and expand the range of data
and name that with the range name you just deleted.
Update the link in PPT and it includes the new data.

Excel MVP's Jon Peltier and Stephen Bullen have Excel examples on
their web sites that show how to dynamically change range names with
formulas. You can find them with a Google search.

I did do Paste Special and selected Linked Object
I can see the link and the range if I use Edit Links but this
only allows me to change Automatic or Manual Update.
If I right-mouse on the object and Linked Object -> Edit
It brings up Excel with the range highlighted, if I highligh
another range it does not update in powerpoint.

Thanks for your reply

I've not used range names in excel but I've also seen a post on this
website that says they don't work with powerpoint 2003, in that
it pastes the actual range and not the range name.

see if I can find Jon & stephen's web site.
