how do i edit wordart

i want to use a certain WORDART but dont know how to get rid of the
background shadow on the words

Which version of Word? In 2003 & prior -- select the WordArt -- and on the
drawing toolbar... on the far right... select the Shadow button -- and
select No Shadow...

You can do the same to eliminate the 3D effect...

Or you can tweak the way the Shadow and/or the 3D effect is applied!
