How do I enable macros in word after installing micrografx

J

James David Lee

After I installed Micrografx Suite 2 successfully, I got an error message
when entering word in Office XP (2002), saying that the host application has
disabled Macros. I have to close this message three times before I can use
word/office. I used to have a patch installed to resolve the problem but
have recently had to re-install my OS due to faulty hard drive. Anyone know
where I can still download the correct patch. Have tried some but may not
have the correct one. Email [email protected] if you have any
suggestions. Thanks!

In Word go to Tools/Macro/Macro Security and on the Trusted Publishers
tab see if you have "Trust all installed add-ins and templates" turned
on.

If that's not the case then I'm not aware of a patch for macro
security. I suspect it was from Micrografx?? If not, what have you
tried?

Also, peer-to-peer support you find in these newsgroups is a 'group'
effort. IOW, you need to return to the groups to check for responses
and post any follow-up information you have there. Private emails are
discouraged for several reasons and a big one these days due to the
email harvesting that takes place. You never want to post your real
email address either in the body of the message or your display email
address unless you want even more spam than you already receive.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Dear Beth Milton, sorry but the box was already checked. I tried unchecking
it and then checking it again. No difference.

Thanks Beth.

Did read all of your reply, Thanks. Tried to re-install word after
uninstalling micrografx but the same message appears. There is a website
that is unofficial which supplies leagacy patches for micrografx, but these
were not the ones I needed. Tried Corel website because corel, I believe,
took over the product, but to no avail either. the unofficial site had a dpp7
patch which was not relevant and said it would only work wiyh a network
product or vice-versa. Have visited another site today but the website was
not what it said it was and dropped six viruses onto my computer which I have
now eliminated. I obtained the correct patch from my computer builder way
back ago. the company is Barry Bennet Ltd. in the UK. I will ask for their
help on Monday, but any help you can provide would be appreciated. My
software is Micrografx Suite 2. It is designed originally for '95 and NT.
Not tried running it in conversion mode as it works itself fine, just the one
problem with word (XP). I am running microsoft XP home edition. Thanks for
your support, will try your other suggestions. Jim.

Oops! I think the error message I get is due to Visual basic, not the
micrografx, which I installed at the same time. The same problem appears on
the word MVP site but does not mention VB. Nor does it mention the correct
cure (setting the macro security to medium which I tried previously). So it
is a patch w.r.t. visual basic that I am looking for. My system has VB.net,
VB5 and VB6. That fixed the problem in the past. Sorry for any mistake, Jim.

Hi James,

If you are encountering a Visual Basic error then other than removing
the Micrografx add-in, which I'd say is the source of the error, all
you can really do wait for their help since it's an error in their
add-in.

You indicated the add-in you have was created for an earlier version
of Word and I'd say that's why you are encountering the error and the
patch you are looking for is a correction to their code so it's
compatible with Word 2002.

If you want to remove their add-in so you no longer encounter the
error then take a look under Tools/Templates and Add-ins and see if it
is listed. If so then it will be located in either your Word Startup
folder or Office\Startup folder. The location of your Word Startup
folder can be found by going to Tools/Options/File Locations. The
Office\Startup folder is located in the Office installation path. And,
of course, you can use Windows Search to locate the file.
