how do i enter text in text box without another text box coming up

I am using word 2003. i am inserting an arrow and want to put text inside
the arrow, but when i click on text box and the arrow i get a new text box,
any help with this would be appreciated.

Don't click on text box. Draw the arrow, right-click on it, and
left-click on Add Text.
