HOW DO I EXCLUDED A FIGURE FROM A CONDITIONAL FORMAT????

I created a spreadsheet at work for our inventory to be put into ORACLE but
until it is inputed I have to maintain new parts and existing parts. I am
currently using conditional formatting to find duplicates of the part numbers
so I do not enter one item twice. I need to keep the conditional formatting
and set a criteria not to include such as "Unknown" or "Varies". How can I do
this???
