How do i find the encoding that makes my document readable

I have saved some files and when i have come to open them up they are in
code, what do i do?

Probably delete them as it sounds like they are corrupted. Did you save them
directly to some type of removable drive rather than the local Hard Disk?

Let us know which version of Word you are using for some further help.

You may want to try going to Tools/Options/General turn on "Confirm
Conversions at Open". Then try opening the files and when prompted
select Word Document.
