How do I fix outlook cannot connect with my outgoing smtp server?

At home I'm able to send emails fine. Not in the library, however.

When I send emails from my laptop in library, I'm getting the above error
message "outlook cannot connect (0x80042109) w/my outgoing SMTP server".

When you're in the Library, you're not connected to your home network and no
ISP will allow you to use their SMTP server if you're not physically
connected to them. You either need to use the SMTP server operated by the
ISP that furnishes the Library their Internet service, determine from your
home ISP if they have a special way for you to connect to the SMTP server
when away from home, or use a national email service like Live mail, GMail,
etc.

Thanks Hal - My email account is an existing Gmail account. At my request, my
son recently configured the Gmail account to work thru Outllook 07 recently
installed on my new laptop. Any suggestions?

About the only thing left is the firewall used by the Library. Their
firewall could be set not to allow email traffic, you might check with them
to see if they do this.
