How do I fix problem drop down problem

Whenever I open a drop-down box and try to select a file, the system freezes.
It happens in Word, Excel and when inserting an attchment in Outlook.

I am using XP and Office professional 2003.

Any help would be much appreciated.

In addition to what Tom said, you also need to disconnect (unmap) any
non-existing mapped network drives in Explorer. This will also seem to hang
all Office 2003 products.
