How do I fix problems with the external USB 10-key pad?

I use a kensington 10-key pad for entering a lot of data. Whenever it is a
negative number and I select the "-" key it activates the "Ext" function in
the worksheet. Is there a way to turn that off? Is it a setting? It really
hampers data entry.
