Suddenly I am getting an error "Feature ID not registered" whenever I try to
open any of the office programs. I'm not sure where it came from and I don't
know how to fix it, any suggestions?

Did you suddenly cancel installation of an update after it was
partially installed? Try running detect and repair.

I have the same issue. I've been using Office 2003 daily on my Vist
computer for a couple of years now. When I tried to download th
Windows 7 advisor, the install crashed. Immediately thereafter, Offic
2003 products and iTunes gave me the error "Feature ID not registered.

I solved the iTunes issue by installing a new version. No problem

Here's what I tried

System Restore to point before attempted instal
Put Office 2003 disk in hoping to restore - uninstall is the onl
option
Tried re-installing office 2003, but it gives me an error relating to
patch
Tried uninstalling office 2003, but it tells me (with install disk i
drive), "The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patc
package exists and that you can access it, or verify that this is
valid Windows Installer patch package."
Tried uninstalling office 2003 without the disk in the drive and i
says, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource tha
is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to
folder containing the installation package 'Pro11N.MSN' in the bo
below." -- I even tried putting the disk back in and pointing to it

Just to make matters worse, 6 days after the initial issue came up, bu
before I had time to dig out the Office 2003 disk, I got a messag
stating something along the lines of gconsync.ext corrupt disk fil
system structure, run chkdsk on c. I did run chkdsk and it found an
corrected some issues

Any clue where to go from here

I have my Vista update disk in hand, but am reluctant to use it. Th
pc is a HP that came with XP, but also with a free Vista upgrade

Thanks in advance for any ideas
