How do I fix the glitches in word?

I have just started using the new Microsoft Office. I am trying to creat a
text box and a big box pops up with the words "create drawing here." I just
want the small text box to appear like in the old version. Is this a glitch?
Can it be repaired?

There's nothing wrong with Word, it's just another annoying new
feature.

Go to Tools > Options > General and uncheck "Automatically create
drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes".

You can certainly be forgiven for not knowing that text box is
considered to be a type of AutoShape.
