How do I fix Word and Excel error messages

O

Outcome

I have a new HP laptop running XP Pro with Office 2003. Word and Excel are
unusable as I repeatedly get a message "Word/Excel have encountered a problem
and need to close". Details of the error message in both cases is: App
Version word.exe - 11.0.6339.0, excel.exe - 11.0.6355.0, Mod Name -
hpzpm309.dll, Mod Ver - 2.240.0.0, Offset 000335a3.. Your assistance would be
appreciated as I can't find any reference to these error messages on the MS
Khowledge Base. I'm about to try to get a refund on Office 2003 and install
an earlier version of Office, which I know is stable!

According to a Google search, I found that it could be a problem with your
HP printer.

The solution I found was to:
"Select a different printer and/or reinstall your HP printer driver."

If this doesn't help, answer these questions:

What exactly were you doing when that happened?
Do you have a printer?
Who makes this printer?
What is the model number of this printer?

Dear Timothy L,
Many thanks. I had an HP all-in-one 4200 series printer installed. I deleted
this printer and bingo, the problem appears to have disappeared.

I am having the same problem and have an HP 6100 series all-in-one printer
installed. Did you reinstall the printer? What happenned?

Outcome

Hi, I downloaded the latest HP printer driver to my laptop and reinstalled
the printer using that. The problem has not returned. I should add that the
all-in-one is attached to a destop on my network, so I use the printer as a
network printer from my laptop, so I don't have all of the "HP Director"
stuff installed on my laptop - just the printer driver.

Cheers, Mike

Thanks. I will try your suggestion. I have the same set up using a desktop as
my network server.
