How do I get a key for Microsoft Office 2000 Pro.?

I bought a new computer and when I went to install my Microsoft Office 2000
Professional I realized that I no longer had my product key for it. Is there
anything I can do to obtain another key?

Did you install it on your old system before? If so, have you got the
old system still with you? If the answer is yes then I can direct you
to a website that supplies tools to get your old MS keys.

Also, MS can supply you one if you have old system still with you as you
will need to read out OID from it to the MS employee who can decipher it
for you.

I also understand that MS can sell you a new key but I don't know
anything this.

Sadly, there appears to be no way of getting the key for Office 2000
using any of the key finders. That particular version of Office
appears to be unique in that respect.

Are you sure? Office 2003 had slight problems but the beta version of
"THAT" tool works fine. In any case I am talking about a completely
another tool which has never been mentioned on these NG YET until I
shall name it when it is required.

Nothing much you can do about it. Aside from purchasing another Office 2000 somewhere like EBay but there is not much sense to do that in your case. You are not able to find the key even if you have your other computer still set with Office 2000. This version of Office does not show up with any key finder like Belarc,Magic Jelly,Everest etc.
Also MS has discontinued support for Off2000 and they will not be able to help you anymore.

Best advice I can give you at this time is to either purchase Office 2003 are if you are inclined to wait for Office 12 which is now in Beta and due out maybe in the last 1\4 of the year.

It was only Office 2000 I was talking about and, yes, I am sure.
I have tried several key finders on an Office 2000 installation with
no joy. Others have reported the same. The conclusion that I came to
was that the key was not held on the hard drive at all.
Mention your tool and I may try it if I haven't already.

I have just checked; you are right. Office2k doesn't work as it says:
In old versions of Office (Office 2000 and below), the 'Product Key'
value is not available.

If the OP has been used to using Office 2000, I would suggest purchasing
Office 2003 and skip Office 12 until all the reviews are in. There are
enough UI changes that it can be disconcerting to users who just like the
bare necessities that Office 2000 offered.

I have to admit that I'm a bit of a skeptic too. I'd hold off on buying O12.
It's public knowledge that there are changes and unfortunately we rarely
ever have time to learn how to use a program before we NEED to use it in the
real world.

I think they are still supplying keys but I know the CDs are no longer being
supplied.
