How do I get a recurring task to automatically reset the reminder.

You mean to create the next task in the series? Just mark the preceding one
complete. New recurring tasks in a series are only generated when the
previous one is marked complete.

Seems so simple now!! It also seems like I tried that before and it didn't
work. However, microsoft needs to add that option to the pop-up window that
contains the reminder for recurring tasks. The only options available in the
window are dismiss or dismiss all, neither of which reset the reminder for
the next occurance. You must open the task to mark it completed in order to
reset the reminder. One extra step I don't have the time for!!!

thanks for your help.

If I'm not mistaken you can right-click on the task item in the reminder
window and select Mark Complete from the context menu.

The problem is, in older version of Outlook, when you right-click and mark
the task as complete, it used to be removed from your reminder window. For
some reason, when you mark complete in Outlook 2003, the task stays in the
reminder window. Is there a setting to change that behavior?

One question further... how can I get outlook to automatically DO THE TASK
without me clicking on it and STARTing it. I want an email message to go out
once a day without my intervention of click start.

I don't understand. What do you mean by "do the task"? If you want emailed
reminders there are utilities you can use, check for them on the Utilities
page at www.slipstick.com

I don't want to hijack this discussion, but how do you set up a series with a
next task? i.e., feed the dogs...1. scoop dog food 2. put in bowl 3. call the
dogs (overly simplified, but an example of what I'd like to do).

You can't really do that. A recurring series of tasks is for a repeating
task that occurs at specific intervals. You could just put the series of
steps in each task (do step 1, then 2, then 3, then mark complete) but
that's about it. Or you'd need to create 3 sets of recurring tasks and
remember to complete each one in turn for that multi-step task.

Darn, not fond of either option; I was hoping to "stack" a bunch of steps and
not have "see" them until I'm ready to actually to them. Thanks for the quick
reply. I'm evaluating your Reminder Manager right now and am loving it.

But how do I make the reminder stay on. It reminds me the first time but
after I mark the recurring task complete for that day, the next time the
recurring task is due there is no reminder. It seems the reminder only works
once. Is there a work around?

One and half years later... I have the same question. But now I'm wondering
what's the difference between setting the recurrence for every weekday and
setting it to regenerate a new task every 1 day(s) after each task is
completed (in Office 2003)?

So if I am understanding right, if you set a reccuring task daily and every
weekday, and set the reminder, when the reminder window pops up, the only way
for it to reccur the next time is to COMPLETE the task. When setting your
calendar reminder to reccur, if you hit dismiss, it just dismisses the
current reminder but the recurring for the next day is there waiting to pop
up. You can't hit dismiss on the task reminder and it reset for the next
day, you have to complete?

I am using Outlook 2007 and I have exactly the same question - I dumped my
reminder program because it wouldn't break into through Outlook to remind me
so I entered all my recurring daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly work tasks
into the TASKS function and now when they pop up, I dismiss them and the do
not recreate themselves with the reminders for the next day, month, etc.
This is a big hole in this program - I really don't want to clutter up my
calendar with all my tasks - is this going to be fixed?

Do not dismiss the reminder. Instead, mark the task complete and it will
generate the next one in the recurrence.

Problem is, if I have a reminder that I want for recurring Tuesdays and I
come in the next day and mark it complete and I have it set to recreate the
task, it will then move the reminder to Wednesday of the next week, not
Tuesday.

Without the "recreate the task" when I mark it complete, the reminder
disappears..
