Hi, I am not able to find the connectors in Autoshapes menu in Word 2000. It
is available in Powerpoint but not word. Can anybody help me on how to get it?

Word 2000 is the only recent version of Word that does not support
connectors. See "WD2000: There Is No Connectors Command on the AutoShapes
Menu" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211921 For Word 97, you can enable
connectors by installing Microsoft Draw 98; I don't know whether this will
work in Word 2000 or not (the KB article does not say so, so I guess not).

Connectors are available and do work perfectly in Word 2000 if you start off
by clicking on the Insert menu and then choosing Pictures and then New
Drawing. An autoshapes toolbar appears when the drawing frame appears and
there are connectors on this, so long as you do all your work within the
drawing frame you can use the connectors and they make life so much easier!

I had the idea that the drawing canvas was introduced in Word 2002 (I
skipped Word 2000, so I missed this). It's odd that the referenced KB
article claims there is no workaround for the absence of connectors.

Hi Suzanne,

MS Draw 98 is included in and can be installed
from Office 2000 CD#2 (Office Tools) to produce
the Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing 'canvas' capability.

I don't recall if MS Word 2000 standalone or
with MS Works Suite also includes that installation ability
(which would explain the KB article wording) or
if it was just Office 2000.

This confirms my suspicion (expressed earlier in the thread) that Draw 98 is
the solution in Word 2000 as well as in Word 97.

I don't think I've ever specifically asked to install Draw 98 but I always
install Office with the 'Run all from PC' option and the Insert>Picture>New
Drawing has been there without having to install anything else.

I've just checked and this feature does only become available after
installing CD2 which I thought most people would anyway but I suppose they
may not select the 'run all from my computer' option.
