How do I get gif files to display in email

When I get an email that has gif files embedded in it, they are stripped from
the message and shown as attachments. This does not happen on my wifes
computer with the same version of Office. On my system I had Office 97
Professional and outlook 2002, I just upgraded to Office 2003 Student and
Teacher Edition. One difference between my wifes computer and mine that I
can see is that mine has Microsoft Photo Editor and her computer does not. I
have an idea that the Photo editor program may have something to do with this
problem. I do not see a way to uninstall the Photo Editor program to at least
try this. One more thing, I see the phrase "extra line breaks removed" at the
top of these messages, and there are no place holders for the images in the
text of the messages. The message shows as plain text. On my wifes computer
the message displays as HTML. Any idea how to fix or change this.
